Polish regulator imposes record fines

Poland’s antitrust regulator (OCCP) imposed record fines on the Polish units of CRH and Cemex as well as four other cement producers for fixing prices and market shares. The watchdog fined the six a total of PLN411.6m (EUR99m). India: cement cemand to keep pace with rising capacity

Despite a rise in capacity, cement players are expecting that capacity utilisation will not be adversely impacted, due to rise in demand, according to a report in Business Standard of India. An extra capacity of 8-10Mt is expected to come on-stream in the next two-three months. Bayao Horta resigns from chairman post in Cimpor’s shareholder

The chairman and CEO of Portuguese cement producer Cimpor, Ricardo Bayao Horta, resigned from the position of chairman in Atlansider SGPS SA, which is a shareholder in Cimpor. The resignation was filed on November 2 with immediate effects, Cimpor said on Monday in a filing to Portugal’s national bourse regulator CMVM. As a result, Atlansider remained related only to Cimpor’s board of directors member Jose Enrique Freire Arteta, Cimpor added in the paper.

EPC Yemeni subsidiary launches production, Saudi Arabia

Saudi cement producer Eastern Province Cement Company (EPC) said today that Saudi Yemeni Cement Co Ltd, in which it owns 30%, had started trial production at its plant in Mukalla, southern Yemen. The plant will have an production capacity of 1.2Mta of clinker and 1.26Mt of cement. Most of the plant’s output will be sold on the domestic market, the rest will be exported to neigbouring countries.
