Lafarge to increase Zimbabwe output

Lafarge’s Zimbabwe unit plans to increase cement output to 90 per cent of its installed capacity of 450,000t next year, the company’s managing director said on Tuesday. Johnathan Shoniwa said Lafarge Cement Zimbabwe had this year raised production capacity to 72 per cent from 62 per cent in 2008, when the country struggled with hyperinflation. Misr Beni Suef Cement to start clinker line

Egyptian cement maker Misr Beni Suef Cement will start operating a new production line by the end of the month expected to yield 5000tpd of clinker, local financial newspaper Al Alam Al Youm reported on Tuesday. Semen Gresik production declines, Indonesia

State cement producer PT Semen Gresik Group said Tuesday its production would drop 120,000t from the targeted 18.8Mt this year, after a factory belonging to subsidiary PT Semen Padang was hit by last month’s earthquake. “The earthquake has reduced Semen Padang’s production,” Semen Gresik president director Dwi Soetjipto said at the state-owned enterprises ministry in Jakarta. “However, we are still optimistic we can attain the target by optimizing our other cement factories.” He added the...

Cimpor del Ecuador, a 51 per cent-owned subsidiary of Cimpor is making a offer for Cemento Chimborazo, currently the smallest of the four cement producers active in Ecuador. Siam Cement (SCC) is expected to continue to post strong 3Q09 earnings of Bt6.5bn (EPS of Bt5.42) up 9% YoY although slightly down 5% QoQ. Papua will build its first cement factory with an annual production capacity of 1Mt in 2010, the Indonesian regional administration said.
