Pakistan cement production up 18.78%

Cement production during July-August (2009-10) increased by 18.78 per cent as against the corresponding period of last financial year, according to Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS). Vietnam to stop some cement projects

The Vietnamese Ministry of Construction has requested three northern provinces of Phu Tho, Hai Duong and Ha Giang stop construction of several cement plants, which are out of the sector’s planning until 2015. HeidelbergCement builds silo in Malmö port, Sweden

HeidelbergCement is set to build a cement silo with a 45,000t storage capacity in the south Swedish Port of Malmö. The 100m high silo will be located in the north part of the port and construction is set to start in 2010.

Ecuador opposes Cimpor’s proposal for cement plant

The government of Ecuador has opposed a proposal from Portugal’s Cimpor to manage a plant in the Latin American country, Efe reported, citing comments by President Rafael Correa on Oct. 24. Talks with Cimpor failed after the Portuguese cement company offered only $20.7 million for the Cemento Chimborazo plant, Ecuador’s Correa said, according to Efe.

India: Aditya Birla group to built INR1500 crore port in Orissa

The Aditya Birla group, which has diversified business interests, Thursday signed an agreement with Orissa to develop a sea port in Bhadrak district on an investment of Rs.1,500 crore, the government said. Cambodia: Kampot Cement plan to expand put on hold

Kampot Cement has scaled and pushed back its expansion plans, now aiming to double production capacity in 2012, due to falling demand for the building material, the head of the firm’s minority shareholder said Wednesday. Khaou Phallaboth, president of Cambodia’s Khaou Chuly Group, which holds a 10 per cent stake in the Kampot-based cement maker, said cement demand had fallen around 20 per cent this year and is likely to remain at the same level next year before beginning to recover in 2011....
