Jordan’s demand on cement drops by 20%

Cement demand in Jordan has declined by 20% recently, The Jordan Times cited head of the Cement Traders’ Association, Mansour Banna as saying. The drop is attributed to the completion of most infrastructure work recently being carried out. Subsequently, around 3000tpd of surplus cement is being stored.

German court slashes cement cartel fines

A German court has slashed the fines levied by antitrust authorities against five producers, citing difficulties in assessing the profits reaped from the collusion. The court in Duesseldorf nearly halved the total fines to EUR330m (US$462m) from the EUR649m initially imposed by the German Cartel Office in 2003 on companies including Lafarge and Holcim. LSR Group obtains loan for cement plant project

The LSR Group and State Corporation Bank for Development and Foreign Economic Affairs (Vnesheconombank) signed a loan documentation package to finance the final stage of LSR’s cement plant project for a total amount of EUR 237 million, with a ten-year maturity and the first interest payment due within 18 months. Russia’s cement institute director murdered

The director of the Cement Research Institute in Moscow was murdered on Saturday, reportedly as a result of his "professional activities".   In the morning on Saturday two unknown men broke into the house of Deputy Director of the Cement Research Institute and shot him, reported NSP.   The murderers entered the house and shot the 40-year man four times, including the head. No vote on last-minute cement plant legislation

It looks as if Titan America’s plans for a new cement plant in Castle Hayne will continue – at least for now. North Carolina senators postponed taking action on a bill that could have forced Titan America to undergo an extensive environmental review. Two coastal senators, Julia Boseman and Carolyn Justice, inserted the legislation into a bill intended to regulate hot water heaters. Other senators say they were blindsided by the legislation and won’t vote on it.

Italcementi SpA, Italy’s biggest cement maker, and Ciments Francais SA said they have abandoned plans to fully merge because of “excessive demands” by US investors.
