The Ministry of Heavy Industries as part of its 100-day agenda has proposed to Cement Corporation of India (CCI) to expand capacity of Bokajan factory and set up a new cement grinding unit at Silchar, announced Minister of Heavy Industries, Vilasrao Desmukh. The Bokajan Cement Plant located at Karbi Anglong produces 1.98Mta of Ordinary Portland cement and Pozzolona Portland cement.

A Saudi ban on cement exports may force Southern Province Cement Company (SPCC) to freeze expansion plans and prevent it from meeting contracts worth a fifth of its 2008 production, its chief executive said. Italcementi SpA and its French unit Ciments Francais have suspended the approval of their merger project until their next meeting, to take place not later than June 26.
