A new tunnel and processing plant at Cemex’s Taffs Well Quarry near Cardiff was officially opened by Jane Davidson, Minister for Environment, Sustainability and Housing, Welsh Assembly.  The tunnel and plant represent an investment of over £14million and will prolong the life of the quarry by 20 years. India’s ACC May cement shipments rise 1.1% YoY

ACC Ltd, India’s largest cement maker, said on Tuesday shipments in May rose 1.1 per cent from a year ago to 1.82Mt. The company, in which Holcim holds more than 46 per cent, said production rose to 1.81Mt from 1.79Mt a year ago.

PT Semen Gresik Tbk revised the US$1.3bn capital expenditure or IDR14.33trn into IDR6trn for new plant and power plant construction. Ashaka Cement Plc, a Nigerian unit of Lafarge, posted a 29 per cent rise in 2008 net profit to 2.07 billion naira ($14.11 million), the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) said on Tuesday. Binani Cement, part of the Braj Binani group, is looking for equity-linked fund raising options to fund its expansion abroad. Shree shipments up 32 per cent YoY

Indian cement producer Shree Cement said on Monday its May shipments rose 32.19 per cent to 735,000t, from 556,000t a year earlier. Total shipments during April-May period rose 29.91 percent to 1.52Mt, up from 1.17Mt a year ago, it said in an e-mailed statement. The firm has a capacity to produce 8Mta of cement at its plant in the northern state of Rajasthan.

HeidelbergCement’s loan restructuring deadline moved

Lenders to HeidelbergCement have been given an extra week to approve the company’s loan restructuring plans, two bankers close to the deal said. India’s Aditya Birla Group said on Monday cement shipments in May rose 19.5 per cent from a year ago to 3.18Mt. Production rose 20 per cent to 3.24Mt, the company said in a statement.
