Bosnia’s Lukavac cement plant, owned by Austria’s Asamer Holding, said it has opened a new 80 million marka (US$58m) production line, which will double its annual output capacity. The new line has a daily production capacity of 2000t, the company said in a statement made available to SeeNews on Friday. Pakistan exports rise 37 per cent

Pakistan cement exports were unexpectedly high at 1.17Mt in May-09, up 16 per cent month-on-month (MoM) and 37 per cent YoY, the latest numbers released by All Pakistan Cement Manufactures Association showed. On the back of robust exports, overall cement sales volumes rose by two per cent YoY (+5 per cent MoM) in May-09. However, exports since January 2009 to date were up 50 per cent YoY to 10.1Mt. India’s Larsen & Toubro Ltd. is likely to sell its 11.4% stake in UltraTech Cement Ltd Friday via a block deal, television channel CNBC-TV18 reported, citing unnamed sources. A.V. Birla Group is the likely buyer of the stake from Larsen & Toubro, the report added.

Paul Cham Group with a 51% stake of Vietnam’s T&T Group and the U.S.-based Phi Mining Group have set up a joint venture, Phi Cham Mining Corporation, to carry out a cement project worth $50.94 million in Cambodia’s northern Stung Treng province, the Vietnam News Agency said Friday. Brazil’s cement sales totaled 4.1Mt in May, down 2% on the same month last year, according to preliminary figures Thursday from the National Cement Industry Association (Snic). Over January-May sales were 19.Mt, down only 0.3% on the same period last year. In the 12 months though May there were 51.1Mt sold, up 8.3% on the prior 12 months.

Saudi cement producer Eastern Province Cement Company (EPC) will add a new production line with a capacity of 600tpd, the company said in a statement to the Saudi borse last Sunday.
