Downturn forces GCC to halt production at Pueblo plant

The new $225 million cement plant in Pueblo, USA, owned by Grupo Cementos de Chihuahua (GCC) has temporarily halted operations. The company’s president blames a slowdown in the construction industry, reports KOAA, USA.   GCC stopped making cement in March one year after the plant opened, and plans to remain inactive for the month of April. China’s cement exports down 12.91% in 2008

China’s cement exports in 2008 decreased by 12.91 percent year-on-year to 13.23 million tons due to the slack real estate market worldwide, according to statistics revealed at the 2009 China International Cement Conference, reports China Daily.   Exports of clinker also decreased by 28.11 percent to 12.8 million tons. US-Mexico trade dispute resolved

Mexico said on Wednesday it resolved a 15-year-old trade dispute with the United States, giving Mexican cement exporters free access to the U.S. market.   "This agreement will allow the Mexican cement industry to expand its exports and give certainty to investment," Mexico’s economy ministry said in a statement.   Mexico’s Cemex is the United States’ No. 3 cement exporter.

China’s cement industry reports 30.8% rise

The cement industry in China saw a 30.8% YoY surge in gross profits last year, which were RMB26.14bn, whereas the industry saw growth of 34.2% in 2007, according to recent statistics by China Cement Association. Lafarge SA Wednesday launched its planned EUR1.5bn capital increase. In a statement, Lafarge said the subscription price will be EUR16.65 per share, made of EUR4.00 par value and a EUR12.65 issue premium, on the basis of six new shares for 13 existing shares. Demand in developed markets falls rapidly

SU-155 Group to construct plant in Kirov region, Russia

SU-155 Group is planning to construct a cement plant in the Kirov region by 2014. The plan, located in Sovetsk,  will have a capacity of 2.5Mt. The total area of the plant will be 60ha and raw materials will be mined from the Beresnyatskoye deposit in the Kirov region, press service of the company said.

UAE: Cement price to fall 22 per cent

Cement companies in the UAE have been asked to reduce the price of cement by 22 per cent with effect from April 1. The new price has been fixed at Dh280 for a tonne of bulk cement and Dh14 for a bag. Most factories have been selling bulk cement at about Dh330 to Dh360 per tonne, while bags are priced at Dh16 and an additional dirham is levied as transport charges.
