Russian Eurocement sees no more cement price fall

Russia’s largest cement maker, Eurocement, does not expect cement prices to fall further and has even seen some signs that they could increase, its president Mikhail Skorokhod said on Friday. 
Russian cement prices fell sharply last year, dented by falling demand from construction firms as the global credit crunch made it much harder for companies and individuals to get loans for new houses. The lifting of import tariffs also weighed, as suppliers from Turkey and China flooded the market.

Higher demand pushes up cement sales in March

March was a good month for cement companies with ACC, Ambuja Cement, Ultratech Cement and Grasim Industries reporting higher sales than the preceding month. ACC sales jumped 15 per cent in March to 2.01Mt against 1.75Mt in February, while Ambuja Cement reported four per cent higher sales at 1.72Mt (1.65Mt). Garadagh Cement JSC (Azerbaijan), which controls 35% of the Azerbaijani cement market, has reduced the sale prices for cement sold in bags by 5% on the average, according to the Turan Information Agency. Aditya Birla March cement shipments up 11 pct y/y

India’s Aditya Birla Group said on Wednesday cement shipments in March rose 11.2 percent from a year ago to 3.37 million tonnes, according to Reuters reports. Production for the month rose 12.4 percent to 3.40 million tonnes, the company said in a statement.   The group’s cement business includes flagship Grasim Industries and unit UltraTech Cement, with combined production capacity of 35 million tonnes a year.

India Ambuja Cements March shipments up 0.5 pct y/y

Ambuja Cements Ltd , India’s third-largest cement maker, said on Wednesday its shipments in March rose an annual 0.5 percent to 1.72 million tonnes, according to Reuters.   The company, in which Swiss cement maker Holcim holds about 46 percent, said production rose to 1.74 million tonnes from 1.71 million tonnes a year earlier.

Asbestos found at Ash Grove Cement

Asbestos has been found in isolated areas of the Ash Grove Cement Co. limestone quarry in Montana City, USA, according the The Associated Press.   Tests by the federal Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) found tremolite asbestos in several samples taken from the quarry last month.   MHSA spokeswoman Amy Louviere said the testing indicates the asbestos is present in the pit as "isolated occurrences," due to geologic intrusions in certain zones of the quarry.   The A...
