Holcim Serbia has announced that its plans to invest EUR 83mn have been abandoned, according to local press reports. The company was to spend the money expanding its Novi Popovac plant’s capacities. Siam Cement,Thailand said on Friday it expected to conclude acquisitions in its core businesses late this year as part of its plan to expand in Southeast Asia.

Ambuja Cement suspended grinding project 
Ambuja Cement’s grinding plant project at Barh has been suspended owing to delays in the setting up of the NTPC power plant, from which fly ash was to be be sourced. Instead, the grinding capacity at Bhatapara (Chhattisgarh) will be further augmented, according to AL Kapur, managing director, Ambuja Cement. The Bhatapara unit currently has a grinding capacity of 1.2Mta. 
 


Scrapping taxes on cement exports to US ‘little local effect’

The announcement made by Mexico’s economy ministry (SE) that domestic cement companies will not be subject to export quotas for the US market will not have a significant local effect, cement industry analyst with local financial group Vector, Carlos Hermosillo, told BNamericas.

China’s cement output up 10.3%

China’s cement production expanded 10.3 per cent YoY to 159Mt in the first two months, amid the booming fixed-asset investment, data released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) have shown. 
 
The growth rate was 6.8 percentage points higher than that for December, as the fixed-asset investment accelerated due to the government’s CNY4trn (US$584.8bn) stimulus package, according to the MIIT data released on Friday.
