Regional industry sales for March 2009 grew by 4.0% compared to March 2008, but declined by 10.2% YoY on a sales per day basis. Venezuela government to pay cement firms for nationalisation

Within four months, Venezuela will pay compensation to cement makers affected by leftist President Hugo Chavez’ 2008 nationalisation of the sector, according to a local media report on Wednesday. Bulgaria’s Zlatna Panega cement posts 2008 profit

Brazil monthly cement sales rise

Brazil’s domestic cement sales per business day rose 4.5% in March compared to the same month last year, to 175,900t, the National Cement Industry Association (Snic) said Tuesday. Compared with February, sales per business day fell 1.5%. Total domestic cement sales increased 11.5% in March on the same month last year, to 4.222Mt. The US housing sector won’t recover until summer 2010 and the residential construction sector won’t be back on its feet until 2011, the Portland Cement Association predicts. Saudi Arabia recorded an increase in cement sales in the first two months of this year as government investments in infrastructure projects spurred construction, reports Business Intelligence Middle East. Pukeuri and other areas in and around Oamaru have been rejected as alternatives to the Waiareka Valley, near Weston, for Holcim (New Zealand) Ltd’s proposed cement plant. EnGRO Corporation is pumping CNY32m (USS$7.1m) into a joint venture to build a cement plant in Hebei, reports The Business Times, Singapore.
