Kenya's cement consumption for the 8M20 has hit a decade-high of 4.37Mt, according to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics. Consumption rose by 11 per cent form the 3.95Mt recorded in the same period a year earlier. Cement sales in Puerto Rico increased 38.4 per cent YoY in September, according to the country’s statistics institute. A total of 1.41m bags of 94 pounds, or 60,119t, was sold, representing the fifth consecutive rise and the highest September sales in the last eight years. Libya's Zliten plant resumes production

Libya’s Arab Union Construction Company (AUCC) has announced that its Zliten cement factory has resumed production, following a stoppage of more than a month. Production is expected to increase gradually, according to the Libya Herald. The high demand for cement in the country has sent prices soaring recently due to a shortage in supply. In August the price of local cement had risen to more than LYD75/t (US$53), compared to around LYD30 a year ago.

Brazil sees robust cement consumption growth in September

Cement sales in Brazil saw a 21.4 per cent hike to 5.8Mt in September 2020  when compared with September 2019, according to SNIC, the country’s cement association. Sales per working day were 250,500t, up 18.5 per cent YoY and 2.5 per cent MoM. Tajikistan has produced more than 2.8Mt in the first eight months of 2020, representing a rise of 3.5 per cent YoY over the 8M19. There are 13 companies currently producing cement in the country, with an estimated annual capacity of 4.7Mta.

Indonesian cement demand drops 9% in August

Indonesian cement consumption in August declined 8.9 per cent to 5.86Mt in August 2020 when compared to August 2019, according to the Indonesian cement association, ASI. Moroccan cement deliveries increased 7.9 per cent YoY to 1,244,689t in September 2020 from 1,154,101 in the year-ago period, according to data by the Ministry of Urbanisation and Housing. The infrastructure sector saw its deliveries rise by 36 per cent to 58,170t while building increased its offtake by 6.7 per cent to 58,187t.
