Anhui Conch Cement to double its capacity

Anhui Conch Cement Co Ltd, the biggest cement producer in Asia by output, plans to double its production capacity in the next three years to meet the great demand for the reconstruction works in the quake disaster areas, said Guo Jingbin, executive director of Anhui Conch. UralKhim, which acquired a licence for the exploitation of a Sordino phosphate deposit in Russia, is now able to build a cement plant with an initial capacity of 1.5Mta. The company and applied to the Federal Antitrust Service for permission to buy 72 per cent of VMU, a fertiliser producer, to use its site for the construction of a cement production facility which will use secondary phosphate production products as a raw material.

Shares in cement makers Lafarge Malayan Cement Bhd and Gopeng Bhd rallied yesterday following the announcement that the government is lifting the ceiling price on cement from tomorrow. Cement sales have grown 7.9 per cent as an increased focus on infrastructure projects has pushed up demand for the building material in the world’s second-largest cement market after China. France’s Lafarge and Iraqi partner Asiacell plan to invest around US4550m to raise cement capacity in Northern Iraq to help meet a shortage in the region, an executive said on Tuesday. Ryazan region to build cement plant

The government of the Ryazan Region, about 150 miles southeast of Moscow, the administration of the region’s Mikhailovskoye District and the Siberian Cement Holding have signed an agreement on social and economic cooperation. The agreement provides for building a plant to produce cement under a dry technology, tentatively estimated at RUR57bn (US$2.4bn, or €1.55bn). The plant will have an annual capacity of 7.8Mt of cement.
