India May cement shipments up four per cent YoY

Cement shipments in India rose four per cent in May from a year ago to 14.85Mt, the Cement Manufacturers’ Association (CMA) said on Friday. Production also rose four per cent to 14.89Mt in May from 14.32Mt in the same month last year, CMA said in a statement. May cement output was lower than 15.02Mt produced in April. Cement makers cut prices marginally in May in some states after the trade minister urged them to help tame inflation.

Vietnam: Ministry bans new cement making licences

Vietnam’s Ministry of Construction has told several provinces to stop granting investment licences for new cement plants from now until 2015.   Under the development plan of existing cement plants and plants under construction, the country will be able to supply enough cement for local demand in 2009.   By 2015, domestic cement production will exceed local demand by about 17.8Mta.

Brazil’s cement sales may rise 12.7% YoY

Cement sales in Brazil rose 12.7% in May from the same month last year, to 4.167Mt, according to figures Thursday from the National Cement Industry Association (Snic).   There was also a 4% increase from April 2008.   Over January-May cement sales in Brazil rose 15% to 19.748Mt and in the 12 months to the end of May the figure was 47.304Mt, up 13.7% on the previous 12 months.

UAE’s Union Cement eyes using coal as fuel
