Oman Cement and Raysut Cement  will from  be allowed to import cement and raise prices amid a shortage and construction boom, the Chamber of Commerce said on Wednesday.   The two companies – the government controls Oman Cement and has a stake in Salalah-based Raysut – will be able to raise their prices to OMR1.8 (US$4.68) from OMR1.6 per 50kg bag, Khalil al-Khonji, Chairman of the Oman Chamber of Commerce & Industry told Reuters.   The price-rise is "to meet the inflation level," Khonji said...

Vietnam to produce more cement

Vietnam will produce at least 50Mt of cement in 2010 to meet the domestic demand, according to local newspaper Vietnam Economic Times on Wednesday.   Cement producers in Vietnam churned out roughly 15.9Mt of the product between January and May, the newspaper quoted statistics from the country’s Construction Ministry. Indian government eases ban on cement exports

The government of India has eased the ban on cement exports from the ports in Gujarat. Gujarat accounts for almost 90 per cent of the country’s cement exports. The Director-General of Foreign Trade has also issued a notification to give effect to the Government decision. “The existing ban on export of cement and cement clinkers shall not be applicable to export of cement from ports of Gujarat,” the DGFT notification said. Holcim Lanka  Limited  announced yesterday the company is hoping to meet the minister for  Consumer affairs to discus increasing the price of cement by Rs.70 to Rs.790 per 50kg bag.  Holcim said that the increased transport cost and the  production cost  due to recent increase in the fuel has compelled the company to request for price revision.

Saudi Yanbu Cement to invest US$453m in fifth production line

Saudi cement producer Yanbu Cement Company (YCC) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Chinese engineering company Sinoma for the construction of a fifth production line at YCC’s cement plant in Yanbu, western Saudi Arabia, with a total cost of SAR1.7bn (US$453m), local press reported on May 25, 2008.   YCC will use own funds and bank loans to finance the project.
