A senior company official from Holcim Lanka there has been a slowdown in demand for cement from the island’s construction sector as people find it difficult to build owing to escalating costs. Turkish cement producer Cimsa Cimento Sanayi has announced that the competition board has approved the company’s acquisition of Bilecik Hazir Beton’s eight ready-mixed plants. In November last year, Cimsa agreed to buy Bilecik Hazir Beton’s assets which include the plants, 85 transportation and heavy duty vehicles.

Iranian company to build cement factory in south Kyrgyzstan

An Iranian company, Mapsa, has applied to invest EUR150m in a cement factory in the city of Taskomur in Kyrgyzstan, the company’s managing director told IRNA.   Ali Ahmadi noted that the annual production capacity of the factory is projected to stand at 4Mt.   He said that the factory’s fuel will be supplied from Tagneh Coal Mine, located 30km away from the factory.   The mine, with a reserve of 50Mt, is considered one of the largest in Kyrgyzstan and is capable of providing fuel for the fac...

Taiwan Cement to double capacity at China’s Jiangsu plant

Taiwan Cement Corp has decided to invest US$135m to double capacity at its plant in China’s Jiangsu province to 4.5Mt by the end of next year, the Commercial Times reported, citing unnamed company officials.   The plant suffered a loss last year as cement price was low at CNY245/t, the paper noted .   But demand has boosted the price to over CNY270/t now, and the plant swung to profit in the first quarter to March, it said.
