Turkish production grows 3.9% YoY

Cement production grew by 3.9% compared to 2006 and reached 49.3Mt last year, according to data of the Turkey Cement Manufacturers’ Association. Cement exports in the same period surged by 17.4% YoY to 6.6Mt. Most of the cement production took place in the Marmara region with 14.53Mt to be followed by the Central Anatolia region where output amounted to 8Mt. The Mediterranean region’s production stood  at 7Mt last year, TCMA data shows.

Vicat expands US downstream activities

Vicat’s first quarter turnover was off by 2.1% to EUR471m in absolute terms, but improved by 1.1% on a comparative basis. Heidelberg, Lafarge, Birla Group lead L&T unit bidders

HeidelbergCement, Lafarge and India’s Aditya Vikram Birla Group are the lead bidders for the ready-mix concrete business of Larsen & Toubro, the Economic Times reported Friday, citing unnamed sources.   The deal is likely to be concluded very soon and the likely size of the acquisition has now increased to US$350m from the initial US$300m, the report said.

Indonesia’s Indocement 1Q net profit more than triples

Indonesia’s second-biggest cement maker, PT Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa, said Friday its net profit more than tripled in the first quarter ended March, aided by stronger sales and falling interest expenses.   Net profit rose to IDR377.03bn (US$40.8m) from IDR112.50bn a year earlier, the company said.   Sales rose 38.5 per cent to IDR2.05trn.   Operating profit surged 156 per cent to IDR545.78trn as spending rose by only 19.7 per cent to IDR311.26bn, it said.   The bottom line was boosted fur...

Cemex has said that sales across all its products in the UK will be down this year, according to reports from Construction News, UK.   The firm said that poor weather in the first three months of this year meant demand for its cement and ready mixed concrete on sites had fallen away.
