The trial of 20 Egyptian cement company executives on price-fixing charges began in Cairo on Monday but after a brief procedural session the court adjourned until March 10. Turkish cement company Baticim said on Tuesday it had made an offer to Ciments Francais for its Turkish cement operations Batisoke, a smaller cement company which is majority owned by Baticim A.S., said in a separate statement it also had bid for the Ciments Francais assets. Sagar Cements plans 5Mt plant in Karnataka

Shree Cement plans unit in Madhya Pradesh

Close on the heels of acquiring mining rights for limestone in Madhya Pradesh, Shree Cement has chalked out a Rs 2,000-crore plan to set up a 2Mta cement plant. “The new unit will have an option to increase the capacity by 1Mt at a later stage. Egypt’s Misr Cement Qena 2007 profit up 17.7 per cent

Egyptian cement company Misr Cement (Qena) posted a 17.7 per cent rise in net profit in 2007 to E£276.45m  (US$50.3m), the stock exchange said on Thursday.     The company reported a net profit of E£234.9m in 2006.  

India Jan cement sales up 4.6 per cent YoY

Cement sales in India rose 4.6 percent in January from the year ago, Cement Manufacturers’ Association’s Web site showed.     Sales in January were 14.82Mt, compared with 14.17Mt in the year ago period. Production rose 5 percent to 14.8Mt last month, against 14.09Mt a year earlier.
