Brazil’s Jan cement sales up 17 per to record 4Mt

Brazil’s domestic cement sales rose 17.6% in January compared with the same month last year, to 4Mt, the National Cement Industry Union (Snic) said Thursday.     This is a record volume for the first month of the year.     In a statement, Snic said cement plants across the country had a good performance last month, especially in the South and Center-West, where sales increased 30.2% and 22.9% respectively.

Second-tier cement firms speed up deployment in Mainland China

Vulcan announces record operating earnings for 2007

Vulcan Materials Company today announced that 2007 full year sales, net cash provided by operating activities, operating EBITDA were at record levels. Consolidated net sales were US$3.1bn in 2007, an increase of two per cent from the prior year’s level. Qatar National Cement Company (QNCC) yesterday reported 78% jump in net profit to QR355m in 2007. The producer also recommended 70% cash dividend for its shareholders for the review year, according to a news item posted on the Doha Securities Market website. Taiwan Cement Jan consolidated sales TWD2.99bn, up 6.6 per cent YoY

Taiwan Cement Corp said its consolidated sales amounted to around TWD2.99bn in January, up 6.6 per cent from the same month a year ago thanks to a contribution from its China operations. Its parent-level sales in January fell to TWD2.25bn from 2.30 bln achieved in the same month in 2007, said the island’s leading cement firm.

Indonesia Jan cement consumption up 18.4 per cent

Indonesia’s domestic cement consumption rose 18.4 percent in January from a year ago to 3.12Mt, data from the Indonesian Cement Association showed on Wednesday. The increase in sales was helped by lower interest rates, which provided a boost for Indonesia’s residential market, as well as construction of infrastructure projects. Hima Cement new plant okayed, Uganda

Hima Cement is to build a second plant when mining in Dura region in Kasese begins in 2010. This follows approval of funds from Lafarge, Hima’s parent company. Lafarge’s offer of $50m (sh85.2b) will fund half of the project, while the remainder would be sourced internally. Dura is located in Queen Elizabeth National Park. Lafarge SA Thursday reported a better-than-expected 39% rise in 2007 net profit on cost cutting and higher sales and margins, and said it expects earnings growth in 2008 despite weakness in the U.S. and Spain, two of its key markets.
