Italcementi, Italy’s biggest cement company, plans to suspend its Sicilian operations as a protest against extortion payments to the Mafia. Iran cement consumption soars

Iran’s industries and mines minister here on Wednesday announced that cement consumption has considerably increased during the past three years. Coal is the world’s fastest-growing energy source as rising oil prices prompt users to switch fuels, the US Energy Information Administration said. Coal’s share of total world energy may climb to 28% in 2030, from 26% in 2004, the agency, part of the US Energy Department, said in a report published Monday. SCCC aims for higher local margins

Siam City Cement Plc (SCCC) plans to reduce its cement export volume next year to 34% of total output from 44.2% this year, in order to take advantage of rising domestic demand. At the same time, the company has raised its ex-factory prices by an average of 200 baht per tonne. Managing director Marcel Smit said the higher prices would result in the firm passing on 60% of its cost increases to customers.

Cement prices in several Chinese provinces have soared as the campaign to close inefficient facilities has eliminated capacity before it can be replaced, causing shortages, China Cement Net said on December 20.     The retail price of Portland cement 32.5 in the southern coastal Hainan Province was CNY500-580/t (US$67.86-78.71) this week after more than three months of sharp fluctuations.
