Akmenes shuts production line for repairs, Lithuania

Lithuania’s only cement manufacturer  Akmenes Cementas on Monday is shutting one of its two production lines for an annual scheduled maintenance period. Akmenes Cementas CEO Arturas Zaremba said that the line would be offline for 45 days. "Once repairs on this production line are complete, we will stop the second production line for 42 days for repairs," he said. Rwanda Investment Group (RIG), a private investment company created by some 43 local investors has committed Rw500bn (US$27.2m) for investment in the country. Thua Thien Hue licenses huge cement plant, Vietnam

The Egyptian cement-manufacturing company “Assik” has acquired 35% of the shares of the cement factory of Zahana, located in the province of Oran in western Algeria, according to local press reports. The deal was initialled in exchange for EUR32.6m. The Egyptian company is intent on increasing the factory’s production from the current 675,000t to 1.8Mta as part of a revamp strategy. New cement plant to be built in Vietnam

The construction of a new cement plant with a capacity of close to 1Mta is underway in the northern mid-land province of Phu Tho.     The Huu Nghi Cement Plant II, built at a cost of VND 900bn (US$56.2m), is expected to be operational for 49 years, from the end of 2008.     The new cement plant is located close to a unexploited big quarry, which is accessible by both motorways and waterways.
