Vicat takes state in Kazakh cement project

Vicat Group said it has acquired a 60 pct stake in a company which is developing a cement factory in Mynaral, Kazakhstan. The remainder of the company will be retained by Kazakh investment fund Kazkommerts Invest, which initiated the project, it said. The value of the deal was not disclosed. Cement plant breaks ground in Phu Tho

Construction has begun on a VND900 billion (US$56.25m) new cement plant in the northern mid-land province of Phu Tho. The Huu Nghi II Cement Plant has a capacity of close to one million tonnes per year and is expected to be operational for 49 years, beginning at the end of this year. The Pakistan cement sector registered an increase of 47 per cent profit in 2007 following the soared cement dispatches as of the upbeat local demand and expanding export market. Holcim Ltd won regulatory approval to buy a controlling stake in China’s Huaxin Cement Co. as the country’s construction boom boosts demand for building materials.
