Chilean cement maker Empresas Melon to be Lafarge Chile

After 100 years of presence at Chilean market, Empresas Melon to change its corporate identity and to be named Lafarge Chile.     It is the end of the transition process of the brand, after the company was bought by the French group  Lafarge in June 2001.     Empresas Melon has reached a sales volume of 1.4Mt of cement in 2006, with a 33.8% of the total market.

Lafarge boosts first quarter margins

Russia’s Siberian Cement has started Kazakh project

With a capacity of 1.2Mta of cement Siberian Cement (SIBCEM) and its undisclosed Kazakh partner have formed the YUG CEMENT (South Cement) joint venture. Indonesian cement maker, PT Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa Tbk , aims to raise its production capacity to 20Mt by the end of 2009 from 17Mt currently, its president said on Thursday. The Gauteng Department of Housing South Africa, has expressed concern that contractors building low-cost housing are going to run out of cement and building materials in coming months.
