Cement firm wins kiln dust appeal

Castle Cement has won its appeal to dump kiln dust on site at its Flintshire factory. The cement producer was refused permission by Flintshire council to dump waste at its Padeswood plant near Mold but the decision was reversed after a public inquiry. The civil construction sector is boosting  sales of cement in Brazil which this year should surpass 38Mt - thanks to increase of real state credit and more financing lines to housing, according to the national cement industry association SNIC. Chinese cement makers are undeterred by weak prices and are expanding capacity in the south of the country, Citigroup said. Regional cement sales up 5.5 % year on year

Cement sales in the Southern African Customs Union rose by 5.5 per cent year on year last month, but were marginally lower than in October.   The Cement and Concrete Institute yesterday revealed that 1.38Mt of cement were sold last month in South Africa, Lesotho, Botswana, Namibia and Swaziland.
