Cement company planning second limestone quarry

The Arizona Portland Cement Company is planning a second limestone quarry on federally controlled acreage next to state land where mining was already approved. The company intends to take 150,000t to 300,000tpa for 20 years from a quarry on 60 acres near Davidson Canyon where the Bureau of Land Management controls the mineral rights. Holcim eyes raising stake in Gujarat Ambuja

Holcim is looking to raise its stake in India’s Gujarat Ambuja Cements Ltd, the Business Standard newspaper said on Thursday, quoting a Holcim official. Holcim, which recently raised its holding in Gujarat Ambuja to 18.4 per cent, will continue to increase its stake, the newspaper quoted Holcim director Thomas Schmidheiny as saying. Sanghi to increase capacity

Sanghi Industries to increase capacity. Sanghi Industries, a cement producer based in Andhra Pradesh state, has announced plans to increase its capacity from 3.3Mt to 10Mta. The company will expand the capacity of its existing plant in Gujarat state by 5.7Mta and also plans to build a plant at Dadri in Andhra Pradesh with an annual capacity of 1Mt. .The company is confident that increased investment in India’s infrastructure sector will continue to push demand for cement. 

German court to rule in February on cement claims

A German court said on Wednesday it will decide in February on compensation claims by a Belgian firm against six cement companies following alleged price-fixing.    Cartel Damage Claims (CDC) is seeking at least EUR113m compensation, alleging that Lafarge , Dyckerhoff , HeidelbergCement , Readymix, Holcim and Schwenk formed a cartel between 1993 and 2001 which caused customers to pay inflated cement prices.    CDC specialises in taking over possible damage claims from companies or individu...

French cement demand grows by 6% in 2006

According to the industry association Syndicat francais de l’industrie cimentiere, demand for cement in France should grow by 6 per cent in 2006, to nearly 24Mt, compared with 22.5Mt in 2005.    Cement sales have been boosted since 2004 by a healthy construction and public works sector. The association has also forecast 3 per cent growth in demand for cement in 2007, due to the continuing positive outlook.

Castle invests extra £10m in Welsh site

Castle Cement is investing a further UK£10m at its Padeswood production plant in north Wales. It will build a cement mill alongside the UK£63m cement kiln that began production last year. The mill will be capable of producing 100tph of cement and is expected to begin production by early 2008. Cemex could raise its $11.7bn hostile bid for Rinker Group after stopping short of saying that the bid was its final offer, analysts said Tuesday. San Teh Ltd said it build a new cement plant in Dali City in Yunnan, China at a cost of S$60m. This will be San Teh’s second cement plant in China. SanTeh currently operates a plant in Fujian Longyan, China. The Dali plant, which will be built on a 266,000m2 site, will have the capacity to produce 1Mt of cement a year and 2,500tpd of clinker, San Teh said.
