Cemex raises prices in Mexico

Cemex raised prices for the building material by about three per cent in Mexico, where the company is based, construction traders said on Monday.  It is the second time the Monterrey-based company has raised prices this year.    A Reuters survey of construction material distributors said Cemex’s cement prices had risen by an average of 3.3 per cent. China’s biggest cement maker Anhui Conch Cement Co is to acquire a smaller peer, people close to the deal said.    The company, together with IFC, an arm of the World Bank Group, plans to take over Auhui Chaodong Cement Co.  Chaodong Cement is based in the central Chinese province of Auhui just like the bidder Conch Cement. Pivdentsement increases production 20.5%, Ukraine

In April 2006, the Pivdentsement company (Olshanske, Mykolaiv region) increased cement production by 20.5% or 14,300 tons compared with April 2005, to 83,900t. Clinker production rose by 4.5% or 1,900t, compared to April 2005.     A month earlier, Pivdentsement increased cement production by 44.4% or 12,400 tons compared with March 2005, to 40,300 tons.

The Buller district has vowed to fight to keep one of its biggest employers, the Holcim Cement works, in Westport. Cement investigations extended, Jamaica

A two-week extension has been granted to the special team appointed to spearhead investigations into the circumstances surrounding the withdrawal of locally produced cement from the market. The team, announced by minister of industry, commerce, science and technology Phillip Paulwell on the March 27, should have handed in its report to permanent secretary in the ministry, Dr Jean Dixon on May 5. The ministry said the report is now expected to be handed in on May 19.
