Oman Cement Q1 net up 16 per cent

The 51 per cent government-owned Oman Cement Company (OCC) yesterday reported a 16 per cent jump in its net profit at RO4.943m for the first quarter of 2006. Sales rose to RO11.126m in Q1 2006 compared with RO10.929m in Q1 2005. The company had posted more than 39 per cent jump in net profit for the 12-month period December 31, 2005 at RO18.224m. Its sales grew by 10.5 per cent to 1.82Mt last year.

Government asks cement firms to justify price hike, India

Kamal Cement & Infrastructure Ltd has proposed setting up a 2Mt (in two phases of 1Mt each) cement plant in the Satna district with an investment of Rs 1,000 crore.     The company will join hands with the Rashtriya group to set up the unit. Pakistan has lifted a ban on the export of cement to neighbouring war-battered country Afghanistan, but has increased its custom duties.
