The Ras Al Khaimah based Gulf Cement Company (GCC) has registered a profit of AED 502.49 million during the year 2005, up from AED 186.74 million in 2004. The rebound in the construction industry is leading the German cement industry to predict its crisis is almost over, writes Handelsblatt, citing an internal trade group document. The BDZ trade group says that more demand is visible in all construction segments, prompting the cement industry to expect a rise of 1%-2% in the consumption of cement this year.

Italian cement group Italcementi will invest some EUR 20m (US$24.1m) in the construction of a new research centre. Polysius has acquired Zurich-based Maerz Ofenbau AG of Switzerland strengthening the German supplier’s lime business.
