Cement prices to rise on back of fuel hikes – Jordan

Jordan Cement Factories Company (JCFC) will increase the price of cement after the implementation of the government’s decision to hike the price of oil derivatives in April, JCFC Managing Director Rasheed Ben Yakhlouf said. Cement plant begins production in Hai Phong, Vietnam

Son Truong Co Ltd recently began operations at a new cement plant in Hai Phong’s Minh Duc Industrial Zone, said company general director Ta Quyet Thang. The 90,000m2 VND126bn (US$7.9m) facility is equipped with industrial production equipment imported from South Korea, Germany and Malaysia.

Moldova’s Ciment more than doubles 2005 net profit

The net profit of Moldovan cement producer Ciment, majority owned by Lafarge, more than doubled last year to 50.9m lei (US$3.9m). Ciment, located in the northern town of Rezina, had a 296.7m lei statutory capital at the end of 2005. Lafarge bought 51 per cent in Ciment in 1999 for US$200,000 and pledged to repay the company’s debt of 38m lei and to invest $12m in the modernisation of the plant. Lafarge owns 71.4 per cent in the company now. 

Feb cement production down, Ukraine

Ukrainian cement production in February, fell by 6.3 per cent compared with February 2005, to 483,000t, the State Statistics Committee said.  In February, cement production fell by 1.2 per cent compared with January.  In January cement production fell by 3.4 per cent compared with January 2005, to 489,000t. In 2005, cement production rose by 14.6% compared with 2004, to 12,183,000t.  

Cement price hikes loom despite predicted boom, UK

Market Business Development (MBD) said the UK construction industry will spend 14 per cent more on cement by 2010, with sales at UK£962.5m at 2005 prices. A protest planned for Thursday against Caribbean Cement Company’s expansion project was called off. It was organised by the Jamaica Labour Party and was expected to involve residents of communities surrounding Caribbean Cement Company’s Rockfort plant. 36,000t of cement expected in Jamaica

Minister of Commerce, Science and Technology, Phillip Paulwell revealed March 14, that since the tariff on cement was reduced to 15 per cent last week, the Trade Board has advised that based on applications received, some 36,000t of cement were expected in the island during the next couple of weeks. Vicat has reportedly offered to buy a controlling stake in five of Cement Industries of Malaysia Bhd’s (CIMA) eight subsidiaries.
