Cement producers Akcansa Cimento, Cimsa Cimento announced in separate statements sent to the ISE that they are interested in the cement plants, previously owned by the Uzan group. The SDIF (Saving Deposit Insurance Fund) will hold sale auctions for the cement plants. Cement prices likely to increase next year, Vietnam

The domestic market watch department has recently asked the Ministry of Construction and the Cement Association to set up a plan for coping with upward pressures on cement prices in the coming year, in the face of anticipated increases in the prices of raw materials.     To ensure a balance in supply and demand and minimise the effect of rising raw material costs, the ministry and the cement association were urged to devise new production plans and strategies. - VNS

Taiwan’s Asia Cement reports 18.50 mln twd damage from Typhoon Longwang

Asia Cement Corp said its Hualien plant in  eastern Taiwan suffered an estimated TWD18.50m in damages caused by  Typhoon Longwang, which swept across the island yesterday.     Meanwhile, an electrical power failure at the plant due to the typhoon is  estimated to have resulted in a decline in clinker output by 26,000t, it said in a filing to the Taiwan Stock Exchange.   

Birla cement sales down 4.1%

India’s Aditya Birla Group said the combined cement sales of two companies in the group, Grasim Industries Ltd and Ultratech Cement Ltd, in September fell 4.1 per cent on the year to 1.96Mt.    Aditya Birla said the combined cement production at the two companies in September fell 0.3 per cent on the year to 1.99Mt.   In the first six months - April through September of the current financial year - the cement sales of the two companies rose to 13.33Mt, up 8.0% from 12.33Mt a year ago.
