Eastern, Western Inidan regions drive up cement offtake

Cement consumption has gone up by 13.8 per cent in the eastern region of India during the first half of 2005-06. In the western region it has increased by 10 per cent. Cement consumption has declined by 2.5 per cent in the southern region due to delays in the Government projects. Production of cement has increased by 6.8 per cent and despatches have gone up by 6.7 per cent during the period. Domestic cement consumption has increased by 6.3 per cent to 120Mt.

Can Tho invests in cement production, Vietnam

The southern city of Can Tho recently spent VND13bn (US$823,800) to install a cement-mixing system with a capacity of 600-700m3 per month, bringing the local area’s total capacity up to 10,000m3 per year. To further supplement its capacity to supply concrete, the city also invested VND31.3bn (US$1.96m) in a cement grinding line, with a capacity of 16tph. This year the city has set a cement production target of 1Mt, a 41.3 per cent increase over last year.

Cement production increased by 15.4% in August

Cement exports set to grow 20%

Cement exports from the country is set to register 20% growth in the current financial year. The export growth is primarily driven by an increase in cement consumption in the Middle East, including the demand arising from reconstruction activities in war-torn Iraq. Total cement exports, which was 10Mt in 2004, is expected to touch 12Mt in 2005, according to industry sources. GCC Opens research centre in Switzerland

Mexican cement maker Grupo Cementos de Chihuahua (GCC) has opened a research centre in Yverdon-Les-Bains, western Switzerland, to develop products and technologies for the cement sector, GCC said. The centre, called GCC Technology and Processes, will develop products for corporate clients, GCC director, Manuel Milan, said. The centre will specialise in improving the process of production for special cement, concrete, aggregates and gypsum.

Iran, Venezuela to iron out details on cement factory project

Chilean cement producer Cementos Melon ranked first in Chile in terms of cement sales with 802,593t for the period from January to July 2005, down 0.4% YoY.   Cementos Melon captured a market share of 35.4 pct in July 2005, compared to a market share of 36.7 pct for December 2004.
