Cemex expands venture with Ready Mix USA

Cemex has said  it is expanding its recent US venture with Ready Mix USA, a move that will bring it almost US$92m for handing operations to the venture.     Cemex  said it will add 27 concrete making plants and four block production units to the joint venture. The NSW Government has approved the construction of a $25m upgrade of a cement mill in the Southern Highlands. The upgrade of the Blue Circle cement mill at New Berrima will enable it to meet state-wide demand for cement products. Gujarat August cement shipments rise 12%, India

Gujarat Ambuja Cements Ltd, India’s third-biggest cement maker, said its August shipments rose 12 per cent on year to 981,000t.  Ambuja’s cement production in the same period totalled 983,000t, up 11 per cent from a year earlier, the company said in a statement. 

Holcim purchases all Holcim (Cesko) shares

Holcim has taken over all shares in its Czech unit Holcim (Cesko) after a squeeze-out, company lawyer Helena Lebedova said.  The Swiss major will pay minority shareholders in the cement maker Kc2,328 per each share worth a nominal Kc378.    "It will be easier to manage the company, no general meetings will have to be called," Lebedova said after today’s extraordinary general meeting. Cimsa H1 2005 net profit up 169% YoY

Turkish cement producer Cimsa increased its net profit by 169% YoY to TRL53.3m (US$39.4m) in the first half of 2005.    The company’s net profit for the second quarter of 2005 went up by 152% QoQ to TRL15.1m (US$11.12m).  Cimsa sales revenue went up by 16.8% to TRL166.2m (US$122.43m). Domestic sales went up by 27% and exports went up by 14.8%. Exports accounted for 35% of Cimsa’s turnover.    Total assets stood at TRL598.59m (US$440.95m), up from TRL580.02m (US$427.27m) at the end of 2004.

Exports of cement increased by 19.1% year on year in the first seven months of 2005, according to the latest data from the Statistical Service. However, Local sales rose by 2.8%. The US Commerce Department has just announced its preliminary results in the 14th administrative review of the antidumping duty order on gray portland cement and clinker from Mexico. The review covers entries of the subject merchandise during the period August 1, 2003, through July 31, 2004.
