Moroccan cement demand declines 4% in January

Cement consumption in Morocco fell 4.4 per cent in January to 1,114,857t from 1,166,184t in January 2016, according to the country’s Ministry of Housing and Urbanisation. Pretoria Portland Cement (PPC), has cancelled plans to shut down its Colleen Bawn cement plant in Gwanda, Zimbabwe, following talks with the government. Indian cement sees growth in industrial production table

The Indian cement industry shows recovery in production during the current financial year contrary to last financial year. According to the Indian Economic Survey 2017-18, which tracks output of the country's eight core industries, the domestic cement sector saw a production growth of 0.6 per cent during the period April-November 2017-18. In a preliminary investigation, the Competition Commission of India (CCI) has found that six cement companies have formed a cartel. Although this enquiry focussed on the northeast region it will widen to other locations, reports the Business Standard. Brazilian cement sales were down 0.1 per cent YoY to 4.33Mt in January 2018, according to the country’s cement association, SNIC. Average sales per working day increased 0.2 per cent but apparent consumption fell 0.5 per cent to 4.44Mt. Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta inaugurated a new cement clinker plant on 7 February. Cement currently retails at XOF5000 (US$9.32)/50kg bag in most stores in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, according to Alerte info. The higher price, which contravenes the government-set price of XOF4500/bag, has been charged to customers since July 2017, reports the newspaper.

Argentina’s cement dispatches up 17% in January

Argentine cement producers dispatches 1,030,280t of cement, including exports, in January, up 3.2 per cent MoM and 17.3 per cent YoY, according to AFCP, the country’s cement association. The domestic market (including imports) expanded by 3.9 per cent MoM and 19.4 per cent YoY as manufacturers delivered 1,043,651t.  Private consultants expect the market to continue its growth path in the next few years at an annual rate of seven per cent.
