Ecocem, a Dublin-based cement producer, has opened its first UK bulk import terminal along the Manchester Ship Canal, built in partnership with Peel Ports at Runcorn. The new bulk import facility on a one-acre plot will handle cement from Ecocem’s production facility in Dublin Port. Consumption of cement in South Africa rose by 7.7 per cent YoY in 2015 following a drop in sales the previous year. According to figures released by PPC, volumes reached 13Mt in 2015 thanks to strong demand from the construction sector. Georgia: new US$100m Senaki cement plant ordered

A new cement plant will be built in Senaki, Georgia. This project was discussed in detail at a meeting between the Georgian Prime Minister and local businessman Cezar Chocheli who owns Interplast LLC, a plastics company. The Chairman of Pakistan’s Association of Builders and Developers (ABAD), Hanif Gonar, has accused the country’s cement manufacturers of keeping prices artificially high. Cement producers in Pakistan will invest between US$700m and US$1bn in expanding capacity over the next few years, according to Mohammad Ali Tabba, chair of the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association.
