Vietnam: Quang Ninh province to stop transportation of cement on Ha Long Bay

The People’s Committee of the northern coastal province of Quang Ninh have decided to terminate the loading and discharge activities, as well as the transport of clinker, cement and wood chip on Ha Long Bay due to concerns over environmental pollution. Irish Cement applies for AF burning planning permission

Irish Cement has formally applied for planning permission to burn alternative fuels at its plant in Limerick, according to local press reports. The CRH group company is seeking approval from Limerick City and County Council to burn used tyres as well as shredded plastics. As part of the development, the company is planning to construct a tyre storage area with a tyre handling/separation area and an associated conveyor, the report by the LImerick Leader noted.

Tanzania: Tanga in talks for increased rail usage

Tanga Cement Co Ltd (TCCL) is finalising discussions with the government of Tanzania to use the Tanga-Moshi railway to Arusha for transportation of its products, according to Prof Makame Mbarawa, Minister for Works, Transport and Communication. Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the US and Puerto Rico in 2015 totalled 91.5Mt, up 3.5 per cent compared to the previous year, latest data from the US Geological Survey shows. Pakistan cement dispatches rose 17.49 per cent to 20.89Mt during the first eight months (July-February) of 2015-16 from 17.78Mt in the same period last year.
