The commissioning of the new 1Mta Huaxin Gayur-Sughd Cement plant took place on 23 March 2016 in northern Tajikistan. The inauguration ceremony was attended by the country’s President Emomali Rahmon. Cimerwa looking to cut costs as it eyes export markets

Busisiwe Legodi, Cimerwa's chief executive officer, has reaffirmed her company’s commitment to developing export markets in neighbouring Burundi and eastern DR Congo. German cement demand reaches 26.6Mt in 2015

German cement consumption reached approximately 26.6Mt in 2015, some 2.2 per cent less than the previous year, according to German Cement Works Association (VDZ). PT Semen Indonesia Tbk and PT Samana Citra Agung on 17 March signed agreement to set up a joint venture company, called PT Semen Indonesia Aceh, which will engage in producing and distributing cement. Spanish demand up 8.4% in February

Demand for cement in Spain has grown 8.4 per cent YoY to 891,297t in February, according to the latest figures of Oficemen, the country’s cement association. According to Aniceto Zaragoza, Oficemen’s general director, the data are consistent with the association’s forecast for 2016 which expects the cement market to grow by seven per cent. For the first two months of 2016, demand reached 1,638,713t, representing a 3.9 per cent YoY advance.

US January shipments - preliminary data

Preliminary data from the US Geological Survey shows that Portland and blended cement shipments in January 2016 amounted to 5.3Mt, including 540,000t of imports. This represents a fall of 1.6 per cent on January 2015 but is well above the five-year average of 4.6Mta for January shipments in the period 2011-15. Philippines: Norzagaray plant inaugurates Horomill grinding mill

Republic Cement & Building Materials Inc inaugurated a 0.85Mta grinding mill at its cement plant in  Norzagaray, Bulacan province, Philippines, on Tuesday. Renato Sunico, president of Republic Cement, said that the FCB Horomill will lift the cement plant's total grinding capacity to 1.85Mta. The Norzagaray unit now comes under the wing of newly-formed CRH-Aboitiz Co following the divestment of assets by Lafarge Republic Inc last year.
