Pakistan has closed fiscal year 2011-12 (FY11-12) with an 8.84 per cent YoY rise in local dispatches, however exports for the year have seen their third successive year of decline and capacity utilisation remains under pressure. Swiss second quarter deliveries fall

In the second quarter of 2012, Swiss deliveries fell by 3.2 per cent when compared with the previous year, figures from local cement association Cemsuisse show. Deliveries for the year to June are 11.4 per cent lower than the same period of last year. This value can be attributed to a fall of around 22 per cent in the first quarter; due to a prolonged cold spell.

Thang Long Cement sales reach 1.3Mt in 1H12

Vietnam-based producer Thang Long Cement JSC sold almost 1.3Mt of clinker and cement in the first six months, Thanh Nien reports. The firm has exported over 5000t of cement to Cambodia this year.

The Italian cement and aggregates group Cementir is entering the British market – not in cement or aggregates, but in waste management through its Turkish subsidiary Recydia. Egypt set to resume cement license programme

The Egyptian government is to start resuming its cement licensing programme to attract investment, particularly foreign interest, according to an official at the Ministry of Finance. Argentina’s June shipments rise MoM

During June 2012, Argentina shipped 906,263t of cement, including exports, representing an increase of 1.9 per cent compared to May 2012, data from the Asociación de Fabricantes de Cemento Portland (AFCP) showed. However, compared to June 2011, volumes were down 1.3%. Domestic consumption was 888,146t, a rise of 1.9 per cent over the previous month and an increase of 0.1 per cent compared with June 2011.

UBS initiates Italcementi with ‘Sell’

UBS has initiated Italcementi at sell with a target of EUR3.40, reports from Dow Jones show. UBS cites a negative view of the cement maker's core Italian market, underwhelming cash flow generation, among other factors. "We expect Italian cement volumes to fall 20% in FY12," it says. "Italcementi is trading at a near 15-year low, following a peak-to-trough EBITDA decline of circa 52%. Vietnam first-half output seen down

Vietnam produced 27.3Mt of cement in the first half of this year, down 5.9 per cent from a year earlier, the government’s General Statistics Office (GSO) showed. During June, the country produced 5.5Mt, an increase of 15.8 per cent YoY, the GSO said in its monthly report. South Africa’s first-quarter sales rise 6.7%

South African cement sales rose 6.7 per cent YoY in the first quarter of 2012 to 2.64Mt, data by the Cement and Concrete Association (C&CI) showed. Average daily sales for the 1Q12 were 41,863t, up 6.7 per cent on the same quarter as last year.
