Shriram aims to raise Jayajothi Cements’ utilisation

Indian engineering company Shriram EPC, which earlier this year acquired a majority stake in Sree Jayajothi Cements, plans to raise the cement plant’s capacity utilisation to 100 per cent.  In March this year, Shriram EPC was forced to buy the 70 per cent stake in its debtor Sree Jayajothi Cements which couldn't pay back its dues. A total of 700 workers from Sepahan Cement Company have entered their third day of strike action in protest against unfavourable legal and working conditions, according to local press reports. According to the  Iranian Labour News Agency (ILNA), the protestors have written to the Ministry of Cooperatives, Labour and Social welfare along with MPs regarding their concerns but to no effect. Vietnam exports seen rising

Exports of cement and clinker are forecast to increase by 27 per cent this year compared to 2011, according to forecasts by the Vietnam Cement Association (VNCA). As as the country attempts to reduce excess supplies, the VNCA expects clinker exports this year to reach 6.2Mt and cement exports to be around the 1.5Mt mark, bringing overall volumes to 7.7Mt. Pakistan cuts Indian cement export prices

Pakistan cement producers have cut export prices for India by 13 per cent due to currency movements. The Business Recorder of Pakistan reports that due to the depreciation of the Pakistan rupee, cement producers have reduced export prices by US$/9/t. Oskolcement increases 1H shipments by 6.1%

Russia-based producer Oskolcement has reported shipments of 1.5Mt for the first six months of 2012, representing a YoY increase of 6.1 per cent. In terms of distribution, thanks to a fleet of new trucks purchased by parent company Eurocement, deliveries by road increased by 17.1 per cent YoY.

Citigroup has lowered its price target on Italcementi to EUR3.60 from EUR4.10, after cutting by 15% the pre-tax profit estimates for the Italian cement producer in 2012 and 2013. An inquiry into health concerns at Hanson Cement’s Padeswood plant in Wales cost almost GPB500,000 (EUR630,000).
