Saudi Cement Company will start up its Kiln No 6 with 4000tpd clinker capacity by May 2012 after it has completed most of the rehabilitation works. The kiln’s environmental aspects will be checked and it will be converted to use crude oil rather than gas, as per Saudi Aramco’s directions. Oman's Raysut Cement is losing market share at home as rival UAE players offer competitive cement pricing. The country's largest cement maker reported a 28% fall in annual profit. Net income declined to OMR14.9m (US$38.6m), in line with analyst estimates, from OMR20.7m (US$53.7m) a year earlier, the company said in a filing to the Muscat Securities Market yesterday. South Africa: cement sales boom

In South Africa cement sales by volume soared by 22% YoY in January to 779,003t, data released by the Cement and Concrete Institute (CNCI) showed.  January’s data is merely the latest in a string of strong YoY increases. The increase in the past five months (September to January) was 10.5% YoY with the November 2011 volumes of 1,141,248t the highest monthly total since 2008.

Sinoma has completed a 6Mta cement plant in Nigeria for Dangote Cement Group. The US$1.6bn plant was formally unveiled on Thursday evening by Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan at Ibese in southwest Nigeria's Ogun State.
