South African cement sales increased by 22 per cent YoY in January 2012 to 779,003t compared to 638,749t in 2011, data released by the Cement and Concrete Institute (CNCI) showed. Dangote Cement, opened a US$1bn cement plant on Thursday, raising its production capacity by more than 40 per cent. Holcim’s Indian interests, ACC and Ambuja Cements both have an optimistic outlook for domestic cement demand this year, the Wall Street Journal reports. Jaypee Cement’s new 5Mta cement plant, situated in Krishna District, Andhra Pradesh, will commence next month, Business Line of India reports. The new facility will cater mainly to the southern markets, Narayan Rao, senior general manager of the Jaypee Group said during a launch brand in the state. Deutsche Bank revises China outlook

Following discussions with the China Cement Association, Deutsche Bank now expect capacity growth of 7.5% and 3.4% in 2012 and 2013 versus its previous expectations of 4.1% and 2.2%. Within the next month Gyzyldash Cement will begin construction of a 5000tpd clinker plan (2Mta cement plant) in Azerbaijan. Domestic demand offsets fall in Pakistan exports

Pakistan produced 17.94Mt of cement in the first seven months of the current fiscal ending January 2012, according to data from the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCM).
