Export ban has little effect on Saudi cement firms

A ban on cement exports in from Saudi Arabia three years ago seems to be having a limited effect on cement suppliers in the kingdom, reports Construction Week. The cement cap was put in place to ensure the kingdom has enough cement supplies for its vast construction projects. Groundbreaking ceremony for new Dangote plant, Zambia

Zambian President Rupiah Banda today attended a ground-breaking ceremony for the US$400m Dangote Cement Factory which will be located in Masaiti District near Ndola. The new factory will have a design capacity of 1.5Mta. Dangote President and Chief Executive Officer, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, noted that the investment will further cement the relations between Zambia and Nigeria.

Vietnam likely to produce 34.7Mt of cement in Jan-Jul

Cement producers in Vietnam are estimated to have made 34.7Mt of cement in the first seven months of this year. The figure represents a YoY rise of 12.3%, the government’s General Statistics Office said in its monthly report released Jul 23. In July, the country’s cement output is estimated to stand at 5.6Mt, up 19.1% YoY. The Ministry of Construction forecast Vietnam’s cement consumption is forecast to stand between 54.5Mt and 56Mt this year, up 9%-10% from a year earlier.

Sociedad Boliviana del Cemento reports that a 50kg bag of cement now on costs BOB53.50 (US$7.8). 
The company said the increase is due to accumulated inflation and rising production costs, forcing  the Sociedad Boliviana del Cemento to level its prices by 7%. Since 2009, inflation was 22.05%, while freight transport increased by more than 20%, staff costs, 32% and the price of raw materials, 60%.
