The instability and social unrest in the Middle East and North African countries has a negative impact on Turkish exports. Indonesia’s cement production capacity is expected to rise to 59Mt next year, from 54.5Mt this year. Additional capacity is expected from PT Semen Gresik and PT Semen Tonasa each 2.5Mt, the association of cement companies (ASI) said. Belarus first-half production rises

In the first half of 2011 cement production in Belarus increased by 1.2% compared to the same period last year and amounted to 2.14Mt, according to data from Belstat. In June alone, some 0.44Mt was produced, up 0.4% YoY and an 8.3% increase on May 2011 figures.

Fire at Holcim’s Holly Hill works, USA

A fire broke out at Holcim’s Holly Hill, South Carolina, cement plant on Wednesday after lightning ignited fumes in a rail tanker that was being emptied of fuel. Plant employees were able to extinguish the fire within a half hour, Facility Manager Joe McFalls said. "We were able to put it out pretty quickly," McFalls said.
