Cherat Cement Co Ltd (CHCC) has become the sixth-largest cement producer with eight per cent market share in Pakistan following the successful installation and commissioning of Cement Line III at the Lakrai plant, Nowshera district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. New 120,000tpa cement plant for El Salvador

Guatemala’s Monterrey group has laid the first stone for a new 120,000tpa cement plant on the Acajutla-Sonsonate road in Acajutla, El Salvador. Construction will be carried out by Qualicons, a Guatemalan capital construction company. The facility is located near an industrial dock, which will enable raw material imports from Asia. The new works represents an investment of US$12m and is expected to provided 600 people with employment. Commissioning of the plant is expected in December 2019.

Iraq approves investment to reconstruct Kufa cement plant

Iraq’s Finance Ministry has approved a US$60m investment to reconstruct a government-owned cement plant in the south-central Najaf governorate, according to Zawya. Work on the rehabilitation and rebuilding of the Kufa cement plant is expected to begin once the funds are released within the next few days. Argos Panamá submits EIS for Balboa clinker plant

Argos Panamá SA has submitted an environmental impact study for its Balboa project to the country’s Environment Ministry. The new clinker plant will be built on a 18ha plot in Buena Vista, Colón province. The works will include limestone crushers, raw material grinding and clinker production equipment as well as conveyors, according to CentralAmericaData. The project represents an investment of US$168m.

Chilean cement plant faces local opposition

The planned cement plant by Inversiones Orange in San Bernardo, Greater Santiago, Chile, is not welcome with the local population. The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Nepali parliament has directed Rorang Village Municipality of Dhading to cancel the land lease pact with Huaxin Cement Narayani Pvt Ltd. Siam City Cement Vietnam signs US$468m investment agreement with Kien Giang province

Kien Giang province has signed an investment cooperation agreement with Siam City Cement Vietnam, part of the Thailand-based Siam City Group, for a cement plant in Kien Luong district. The agreement represents an investment of VND10.89trn (US$468m) for both a limestone and clay mining project as well as a clinker line.

Construction starts on new 1.5Mta Uzbek plant

Construction of a new cement plant in Yanguikurgan district in Namangan region of Uzbekistan has been started. The works has a capacity of 1.5Mta and is built on a 40ha plot. Total cost of the investment is US$105m, of which Chinese investors contribute US$90m. The facility is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2020 and will provide 700 new jobs.

Floods have swept away the Huaxin Cement Industry plant under construction in Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality-2, Talti, Nepal, on the night of Sunday, 14 July, according to Khabarhub.
