A groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a new cement plant has been held as part of celebrations to mark Aliko Dangote’s 59 th birthday. Officials in Attleboro, Massachusetts, USA, have rescinded a permit given to Attleboro Sand & Gravel to allow it to develop a cement plant. PT Semen Indonesia Tbk and PT Samana Citra Agung on 17 March signed agreement to set up a joint venture company, called PT Semen Indonesia Aceh, which will engage in producing and distributing cement. Orascom wins greenfield contract in Algeria

Orascom Construction has been awarded the contract for a greenfield cement plant in Algeria. The new 6000tpd plant is for a private sector client and comprises infrastructure work for an industrial complex, Orascom said in a statement. The combined value of both contracts is US$180m.

BUA Group reportedly in talks to build two plants in east Africa

The BUA Group of Nigeria in talks with China’s Sinoma to build two cement plants in east Africa and a steel plant in Nigeria for US$1.9bn, according to a report by Reuters. BUA Group chairman, Abdulsamad Rabiu, told the international news agency that the two cement plants will have a capacity of 3Mta and cost US$700m. FLSmidth has signed an EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contract with a value of more than EUR200m with SARL Amouda Ingineering for the supply of a greenfield cement plant in Algeria.
