PT Semen Indonesia will soon acquire 500ha of land in West Papua for the construction of a cement plant at a cost of around US$150m. Semen Indonesia corporate secretary Agung Wiharto told the Jakarta Post that the firm would sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) later this year to procure the land for the first cement factory in the province. Two Chinese companies signed an agreement on Thursday to jointly invest in an Indonesian cement factory as part of investment cooperation measures agreed by the two countries in 2013. Cimentos Tupi to build new plant in Paraná state

Brazilian producer Cimentos Tupi is to invest BRL915m (US$408m) in a new factory in Adrianópolis, Paraná state. According to local news reports, the plant will have a capacity of 1.5Mta. Cimentos Tupi executives signed a letter of intent with the state government of Paraná yesterday. The new investment will be the company’s first cement facility to be located in the south. Vietnam cancels five plant projects from Master Plan

Vietnamese Prime Minister, Nguyen Tan Dung, has approved a proposal by the country’s Ministry of Construction to cancel five cement projects from the industry’s Master Plan 2011-2020. The five projects, which have a combined capacity of 0.91Mta, are Cao Duong, Cho Moi, Viet Duc, Long Tho and Ngan Son.
