Cemex Colombia to study solar farm construction

Cemex Colombia, the mayor of Ibague and LG announced they will initiate the technical, economic and legal studies required to build a solar farm that will supply sustainable power Tolima’s public lighting system. The farm would be located on a 56ha site, owned by the Mayor’s Office on the Doima-Buenos Aires highway. Around 16ha of solar panels would be installed. The electricity generated could also be used at Cemex’s Tolima cement plant to reduce greenhouse gases.

Bamburi Cement has put its plans to switch to solar power on hold, reports Standard Digital. Taiwan Cement Corp plans to spend TWD980m (US$32.45) on a green energy project at the Changhua Coastal Industrial Park. The project involves the development of photovoltaic systems and onshore wind farms, according to the Taipei Times. Holcim US Inc is proposing the construction of a 10MW solar power plant on a 120-acre section of its property just south of Antietam Creek, near its cement plant in Hagerstown (MD), USA, according to reports in the Herald Mail-Media. Hyundai Cement seeks to build solar power plant

South Korean cement producer Hyundai Cement Co is looking to build a photovoltaic (PV) power plant at its existing cement facility in Dangyang. The consortium of Hanil Cement and LK Investment Partners, which gained ownership of Hyundai Cement last month, is considering using some part of the company’s Danyang factory site in North Chungcheong Province to build a solar energy farm. Sagar Cements has announced that it is to invest a further INR280m (US$4.35m) to complete the construction of a captive power plant and finance a new solar project, according to reports in the Hindu. Cemex has opened tendering process for its new photovoltaic solar plant at San Pedro de Macorís in the Dominican Republic. The cement producer is looking for a company that can build and operate its new 13MW solar power plant and sell the output to Cemex. In 2014 Cemex opened its first solar farm with a capacity of 1.5MW. This was followed by an electricity supply agreement to provide its San Pedro de Macorís cement plant with wind power.
