Cementos Argos installs solar power unit in Honduras

Colombia’s Celsia CV (Grupo Argos) has installed a 10.6MW solar plant at Cementos Argos’ facility in Comayagua, Honduras. The unit consists of 32,160 solar panels and will be able to meet 20 per cent of the cement plant's electrical demand. As a result, Cementos Argos should be able to avoid some 10,000tpa of CO 2 emissions. The project is Celsia’s first photovoltaic plant in Honduras.

GCC signs 15-year solar power deal in Mexico

Grupo Cementos de Chihuahua SAB de CV is to operate some of its cement operations in Mexico on solar energy under a newly-signed power purchase agreement (PPA). The company said it signed a 15-year off-take deal with a Mexican solar power supplier for electricity for its cement factory in Juarez, ready-mix and aggregates operations and corporate offices. Birla Corp and RCCPL, its wholly-owned subsidiary, have acquired 26 per cent ownership (7.8 per cent and 18.2 per cent, respectively) of AMP Solar Clean Power. Construction on the 10MW solar project for LafargeHolcim-owned Holcim US Inc’s Hagerstown plant could commence before the end of the year, according to a project official. Bharathi Cement commissions 10MW solar power plant

India’s Bharathi Cement has commissioned a 10MW solar power plant at its 5Mta cement works in Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh. The facility is expected to help cut the company’s overall energy costs by reducing its reliance on thermal power. The project was delivered by Fourth Partner Energy in a record 60 days, according to a company press release. The power plant is part of Bharathi’s long-term plan to transition to renewable energy.

Thailand’s SCG Cement has signed a memorandum of understanding with Constant Energy for the deployment of 50MW of solar plants, according to PV Tech.
