Foreign cement vessel yet to be salvaged in Sri Lanka

The general cargo vessel Sri Lanka Glory, which brought cement clinker to Sri Lanka and later ran aground at Rumassala, Galle, southern Sri Lanka, due to inclement weather last week, is yet to be salvaged. The vessel met adverse weather after offloading clinker for a local cement plant and anchoring at the outer harbour. Pakistan's export revenue rises during 11MFY19

Pakistan's cement export revenue for the first 11 months of the current July 2018-May 2019 fiscal recorded a YoY growth of 26 per cent and 46.2 per cent in terms of dollar value and quantity, respectively, according to Pakistan's Bureau of Statistics (PBS). Pakistani research house Insight Securities forecasts that in FY18-19 (July 2018-June 2019), domestic sales will fall 5.6 per cent to 38.8Mt (-10.2 per cent in the north but a rise of +16.3 per cent in the south). Bulk carrier detained outside Chittagong port

According to Chittagong Port Authority (CPA), the Egyptian bulk carrier "Wadi Feran" was arrested by orders of the local High Court on 23 May in a litigation case at the outer anchorage of Chittagong port in Bangladesh. No reason was disclosed for the arrest. This is likely to delay unloading of clinker, being imported by a local cement manufacturer. The vessel laden with 50,141t of imported clinker arrived on 8 May.

Cement exports during the first nine months of July 2018 to March 2019 recorded a YoY growth of 32.8 per cent and 55.4 per cent in terms of value in dollar and quantity, respectively, according to Pakistan's Bureau of Statistics (PBS). Rwanda Bureau of Standards (RBS) returned cement imports into Rwanda by Uganda's Hima Cement Ltd (LafargeHolcim group) last month after they failed to meet the country's import quality standards.
