Algeria exports to Dominican Republic

Algeria-based Société des Ciments de Aïn El Kebira (SCAEK), part of the GICA Group, has exported 40,000t of clinker to the Dominican Republic, reports L’Expression. GICA has exported some 550,000t of clinker since the start of the year to African and South American countries, including Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea, Peru and Brazil, according to GICA.

Vietnam's export volumes fall 5% in October

Vietnam is estimated to have exported 3.2Mt of cement and clinker worth US$126m in October, down 4.8 per cent in volume and five per cent in value YoY, according to the General Statistics Office data released on 29 October. In the first 10 months of 2020, the country is estimated to have exported 31.45Mt of cement and clinker at a value of US$1.17bn, up 18.2 per in volume and 5.6 per cent in value.

Tajikistan exports 31% of production in 9M20

Tajikistan exported 990,000t of cement in the January-September period of 2020, according to the country’s Ministry of Industry and New Technologies. Around 31 per cent of the cement produced in the country was exported in the 9M20, mainly to Uzbekistan (562,000t), Afghanistan (391,000t) and Kyrgyzstan (43,000t). The Cement Manufacturers Association of the Philippines (CeMAP) has submitted an appeal to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), asking it to postpone the reduction of the PHP10/bag (US$0.21) safeguard duty and instead raise it to PHP12/bag. Tunisia-based Ciments de Bizerte announced it is resuming bulk cement exports by sea from the Port of Bizerte. The first ship was loaded with bulk cement destined for the Libyan market. The company has invested in new loading and unloading facilities.

Cemex exported 9% of Mexican output in 2019

Cemex exported nine per cent of its Mexican cement sales in 2019. according to CE NAFTA 2.0. The company’s data show that 67 per cent of exports were delivered to US customers while the remaining 33 per cent were shipped to other Latin American countries. Exports were mainly in the form of cement although the company also shipped some clinker.

The unloading of imported clinker and other commodities in Chittagong and Mongla ports in Bangladesh remains suspended due to an indefinite strike called by Water Transport Workers for the last two days.
