The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) has raised concerns over the location of a cement plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, as is it situated across from a school. USA: Eagles Materials to buy Cemex Fairborn plant

Cemex US has signed a definitive agreement for the sale of its Fairborn (OH) cement plant and cement terminal in Columbus (OH), including a bagging operation to Eagle Materials Inc for approximately US$400m. The 2016 EBITDA for the divested assets is estimated to be US$33m. The proceeds obtained from this transaction will be used mainly for debt reduction and for general corporate purposes. The US Portland Cement Association (PCA) has awarded Cemex USA Lyons cement plant with its 2016 Energy and Environment Award for Land Stewardship. Lehigh Cement lays off 39 workers

According to the union that represents more than 75 per cent of the workers at Lehigh Southwest Cement’s plant north of Redding, California, USA, Lehigh Cement made the decision to lay off 39 workers on Friday, 9 September 2016. Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico in June 2016 were about 9.2Mt, up by 2.7 per cent from sales in June 2015, reports the US Geological Survey. Ireland’s Ecocem has invested EUR30m into a new production plant in the north of France as part of a joint venture with ArcelorMittal, the world’s largest steel company.
